Tower Poplar

Extremely tall and narrow. Used primarily as a sharp vertical accent or in a row as a very tall screen; fast growing, more disease resistant than Lombardy poplar. One of the toughest of all columnars. Lobed leaves are green on top and furry white underneath. Ideal sound barrier, screen or accent plant. Great for privacy, shelterbelts, windbreaks. Pointed leaves have white undersides. Same narrow characteristics of the Swedish Aspen. Prefers full sun and is considered somewhat drought tolerant. Provides shade. Disease resistant. Combines qualities of improved root-ability and foliage found in the female parent, White Poplar, Populus alba L. (Linnaeus), with the hardiness and columnar growth form of its male parent, Swedish Aspen, Populus tremula (L.) ‘Erecta’.
