Mountain Pine


Best year round color and fullness of any prairie hardy pine. Dense evergreen with dark green needle color that is retained all year long. Broad pyramidal form. Moderately fast growing. Strong straight single trunk. Excellent for use in an entry feature or rock garden. Also great for privacy, shelterbelts, windbreaks and screening. Looks similar to Mugho Pine, but taller and with a single leader. Sometimes called Swiss Mountain Pine. The species name, uncinata (“hooked point”) refers to the pronounced prickle present on the seed cones. Likes moist soils. This species is native to Europe – Sierra de Gúdar, Sierra Cebollera, Pyrenees, Massif Central, and the western Alps. Evergreen, Conifer, Coniferous.
